DESIGNERS ADVICE At the start of the 21st century there has been a fundamental change in the way people perceive their bathrooms. Previously bathrooms were bath and sink with separate toilet, being used for the functional reason of personal hygiene and cramped into the smallest room in the house, with only one per household. Now they have become the salubrious stress free zones of rest and relaxation, with ever-increasing budgets being used and even converting other rooms within a house to add extra bathrooms and en-suite. There has been an increase in the use of more diverse materials from ceramic and fibreglass to stone, stainless steel, wood and now even glass baths. These materials can be formed into more unusual shapes, so we no longer need thick heavy basins resting on pedestals and large unsightly toilet. They now come free standing, giving the impression they are floating in thin air. Taps have gone from brass and gold plated cross heads to chrome with ever-increasing high tech looking levers which can now be said to be design features within the whole concept. Walls and floors can now be covered in any material as long as it is waterproof and can be sealed into your design, remembering that floors can become very slippery when wet. With todays technology and openness to new ideas your imagination can become your reality.
